May 2013:

*There will be a Luau & BBQ on Thursday, May 23rd beginning at 6pm at the 4H Dining Hall in Glenwood, WV.  Come enjoy great food, games, music and more!  Cal 304-308-0274 for more information.

*Bluefield High School is holding an 8k Run Saturday, May 25th at 7am. The race will begin at Bluefield High School and conclude at Mitchell Stadium. The registration fee is $20 before May 20th and $25 after May 20th. There will be a fun run for children under the age of 10 for $15. *The 27th Annual Klingensmith Cup Golf Tournament will be played on Monday, May 20th at the Wolf Creek Golf Course in Bastian, Virginia. This event is sponsored by Bluefield State College's School of Engineering Technology and Computer Science.  Entry fee is $50 per participant or $200 per team. The entry fee is used to purchase prizes, pay for lunch, beverages, and golfing privileges. For more info, you can contact Betty at 304-327-4031.

*Big Walker Lookout presents the Appalachian Hoedowners Clogging Team on Saturday, May 25th from 2pm-4pm.  The Hoedowners perform to a variety of music including Bluegrass, Country and Gospel with a bit of Comedy peppered into their show!  There will also be a hot dog/bake sale along with their performance.

*Big Walker Lookout presents Thom Moore on Sunday May 26th from 2pm-4pm.  Come enjoy the sweet banjo stylings of Thom Moore & That Evening Sun, sometimes referred to as "Chamber Grass", we are just sure that you're just gonna love their sound!



June 2013:

*Are you a Veteran?  Are you a surviving spouse of a Veteran or a disabled Veteran?  If yes, mark your calendars for the Veterans Expo on June 1st from 10am-3pm.  This event will be held at the Charles R. King Community Center at Southwest Virginia Community College.  The Veterans Expo is designed to connect you and your family members to area resources and service providers.  Meet Mark L. *Thompson Valley Community Center and the Plum Creek Quilters are hosting a 'Crafters Bazaar' on June 8th from 9am-3pm.  All crafters are welcome and no registation fee.  For more info call Kathleen Allison at 988-7266 or Tammy Allison at 979-6536.

*'Celebrate Princeton' will be held on Mercer Street on Saturday, June 8th from 8am-5pm.  Come enjoy great food, fun and entertainment!  Interested vendors should call 304-487-5045.

*The 2nd Annual Ride for Hope Poker Run will take place on Saturday, June 8th. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life on behalf of Jan-Care's team. Refreshments will be served and prizes will be given away for the best & worst hands. *Giant Yard and Bake Sale to benefit the Southern WV Animal League (an all volunteer animal rescue organization) on Satuday, June 8th, from 8am-4pm in the
parking lot of Brown, Edwards & Company, located at 1815 Jefferson Street, Bluefield, WV.  There will be lots of clothing, toys, household goods, decorations, knick knacks, books, etc for sale.  Also selling hot dogs, BBQ, nachos and baked goods.  Something for everyone!  For more information call Danielle Brooks, volunteer, at 304-320-7108.

*The Bluefield State College Jazz Ensemble will present its annual Spring Concert on Monday, June 10th at 7pm in the Basic Science Auditorium on the BSC campus. The Jazz Ensemble is a unique combination of area musicians dedicated to the performance of the finest arrangements featuring the big band sound. There is no admission charge, and the public is encouraged to attend.  Additional info can be obtained by contacting: bscjazz@gmail.com.

*On June 15th, the Pull For Hope will be having a walk-a-thon to raise funds for sick children and their families.  Registration for the event will be at 9am at The Harvest Moon restaurant in Welch and the walk will begin at 10am.  Registration is 5 dollars per person for whoever wants to participate in the walk.  The walk will end at Linkous Park in Welch, where there will be a Chili Cook-off and a bake-off as well.  For more information about the these events please contact Tasha Dotson at 304-436-1600.

*Dates for Bluefield State College men's basketball coach Jamaal Jackson's 2nd Annual BSC Basketball Camp have been announced.  The camp will be conducted June 17th-20th (9am-4pm daily) in the Ned Shott Gymnasium on the BSC campus.  Camp counselors and Coach Jackson work with campers to sharpen fundamental skills and enhance their understanding of the game.  Camp fee is $75 per participant ($60 if paid by May 30).  Interested individuals are encouraged to contact the BSC men's basketball office (304-327-4207) for additional information.

*The 2013 Mercer County 'Out Of The Darkness Community Walk' will take place on Saturday, September 14th at Bluefield City Park in Bluefield, WV.  Check in time is from 9:30am-10:30am.  The event will start at 10:30am and last until approximately 2pm.  Last year we raised $15,000, this year our goal is $20,000!  For more information, call Jessica at 232-272-6287.
