*Thompson Valley Community Center will be having a Corn Harvest Weaving Class on Saturday, September 5th  from 9am-3pm. Barbara Herald Sadler will be the instructor. *The National Coal Heritage Area invites all area middle school students to Youth Arts in the Park in Historic Bramwell on Wednesday, September 9th and Thursday, September 10th from 9am-1:30pm. Students will learn about Bramwell while participating in various art mediums including digital photography, music, painting, recycling, and designing quilt squares!   Registration is required and limited to 100 students each day. *Come check out the Mercer County Heritage Festival, September 11th-13th at the Glenwood 4-H Camp.  Enjoy a living history festival with storytellers, historical characters, old time demonstrations, vendors, Appalachian music, Civil War battle reenactment, and Civil War Ball.  Friday, September 11th is our Education Day with local students invited out. Pre-registration by teachers is encouraged. Saturday, September 12th has a full lineup of guest speakers such as Harriet Tubman, Abraham Lincoln and Robert E. Lee.

WVCANCLIMB - a statewide hike to end child abuse. Hikers participating at Camp Creek State Park can choose between an easy or advanced trail on Saturday, September 19th - registration begins at 8:30 AM at the Camp Creek Amphitheater. The hike will end by 12pm.  Register online at www.wvcanclimb.org.  $35 for adults, $15 under 18...All pre-registered hikers will receive a free t-shirt!

*Dubbed “The Rockstars of Bluegrass”, the award winning duo Dailey & Vincent will appear at the Chuck Mathena Center on Friday, September 25th at 7pm. *On September 26th, it's the 3rd Annual Diabetes Walk.  The walk will take place in Bluefield, VA at Jack Asbury Square with vendors, food, refreshments, bouncy houses, dunking booth, and a large drawing after the walk with donated gifts from local businesses from VA and WV.  Bluefield State College Nursing will be conducting blood sugar and blood pressure testing.  Live music will be performed by Tara and Philip White.  Please join us to raise money for diabetes research, programs, and protection of the rights of people with diabetes.

*Access Intensive Counseling’s court ordered parenting group meets on the first Wednesday of every month. The next classes will be held on October 7th, November 4th and December 2nd in their Grundy location. Other locations can be made available in Tazewell and Russell County. *Bluefield College’s Masterworks Chorale will begin rehearsals in preparation for its Fall 2015 concert and, as always, community residents are invited to be a part of the college/community choir.  Masterworks rehearsals will take place on Mondays from 7pm-9pm in the lower level of Harman Chapel, room 103, through Monday, November 30th in preparation for the group’s performance as part of Bluefield College’s “Christmas at Bluefield” musical, theatrical and multimedia production, Friday and Saturday, December 4th & 5th.  For more information, call 276-326-4258 or email bthorburn@bluefield.edu.
